The Datasite is capable of supporting regular HTML file-based websites through FTP access, or through our External Directory module that allows editing of web pages with our embedded HTML editor. However, using this system bypasses many of the advantages of a content management system. Typically for conversions, we will move your existing site to an External Directory module and host it, then we convert your site shortly after that.

In order to use any content management system, your website must first be converted to work with that system. Converting a website to a Datasite usually involves four parts:

1. Template conversion - typically, most websites have a standard design for many or all pages that is "filled in" with text and graphics specific to each page. In preparing your website for the Datasite, we determine which pages share a common design and extract that design as a page template and make changes to allow it to work in the Datasite, such as image paths and links. You can then select a specific template for each Datasite page at any time.
2. Images and Files setup - all images and files are moved into the Datasite. Those that will need ready access are placed in our Images and Files modules. All template-related images and files are typically placed in directories which are available to FTP.
3. Page Setup - once we have created templates that match your web pages, we copy the individual pages of your website to Datasite "pages" - each page is actually a database entry which is inserted into the page template each time the page is browsed, creating your page "on demand."
4. Functionality - if your website requires additional functionality, such as forms or search functions, we can also add these in. The Datasite includes a lot of pre-programming, we can turn your website into a custom Web application quickly and inexpensively.

Once your site is set up, you will be able to preview it and make any changes you would like before it "goes live", or at any time afterward. Changes, from individual corrections to an entire site redesign, can be previewed then published instantly.

Conversion Cost

The cost for converting your website varies based on it's design, the number of templates required, the number of pages, and any added functionality. Once the templates are converted, creating individual pages is usually quite fast. Typically, a 30 page site with two templates and a submission form would cost approximately $150-200.00 to convert. Email us your site location, and we will give you a quote for site conversion.
